About the Office of Residence Life

The Office of Residence Life oversees all aspects of student housing, residential communities, and programs that support student growth and engagement outside the classroom. We believe that living on campus is an integral part of the holistic student experience — a space to learn, connect, and grow.

Our Mission

We provide a living-learning environment that enhances academic success, personal development, and community belonging. Our goal is to foster safe, inclusive, and stimulating residential communities where students of diverse backgrounds thrive.

What We Do / Areas of Service

Housing & Room Assignments

  • Assignments for first-year, returning, and graduate students
  • Room types: shared, single, themed floors, honors housing, etc.
  • Floor plans, facility descriptions, and amenities (e.g. lounges, laundry, study rooms)

Residential Education & Programming

  • Workshops, leadership training, and social events
  • Community building events, cultural nights, peer mentoring
  • Academic support programs (study groups, tutoring in halls)

Staff & Leadership

  • Residence Life Staff: Resident Advisors (RAs), Head Residents, Community Coordinators
  • Professional Staff: Director, Associate Directors, Residential Education Coordinators
  • Committees & Governance: Hall councils, student committees

Diversity, Equity & Inclusion

  • Initiatives to support underrepresented groups
  • Safe space policies, programming that highlights inclusion
  • Resources for students from diverse cultures, identities, and abilities

Policies & Standards

  • Housing contract, code of conduct, guest policies, quiet hours
  • Safety & security, maintenance requests, damage fees
  • Conflict resolution, mediation, appeals

Scholarships / Special Programs

  • River Hawk Scholars (or analogous honors / leadership residential scholars)
  • Co-curricular living-learning communities (e.g. STEM, Global Leadership, Arts)

Professional Development & Staff Support

  • Training for RAs and staff (mentoring, leadership skills)
  • Career development, performance reviews, compensation structure

How to Apply / Housing Process

  • Submit housing application before the deadline
  • Indicate preferences (room type, roommate, special communities)
  • Review housing assignment and contract
  • Move-in orientation and check-in
