Welcome

The Department of Parasitology at the University of Juba is devoted to the study, prevention and control of parasitic diseases that continue to affect communities in South Sudan and across Africa. We train future biomedical professionals with a strong foundation in medical parasitology, vector biology and tropical disease control—preparing them to support public health, clinical medicine and scientific research.

Our Mission

To advance education, research and service in parasitology and vector-borne diseases through high-quality teaching, laboratory training and community engagement—building local capacity for disease diagnosis, prevention and control.

Our Vision

To be a leading centre of excellence in parasitology education and research in East and Central Africa, recognised for producing professionals and researchers capable of tackling endemic and emerging parasitic diseases.

Core Values

  • Scientific Excellence – rigorous teaching, practical competence and credible research.
  • Integrity – upholding ethics, responsibility and transparency in laboratory and fieldwork.
  • Community Service – focusing on the health priorities of South Sudan’s communities.
  • Innovation – applying new technologies for parasite detection, diagnosis and control.
  • Collaboration – working with health ministries, hospitals, NGOs and international research institutions.

  • Helminthology (intestinal, blood and tissue parasites)
  • Entomology and Vector Biology
  • Diagnostic Parasitology Techniques
  • Epidemiology and Control of Parasitic Diseases

Why Study With Us?

  • Comprehensive coverage of medical and applied parasitology relevant to South Sudan.
  • Access to teaching laboratories equipped for diagnostic parasitology.
  • Opportunities for research and field studies in partnership with public-health agencies.
  • Faculty with clinical, academic and research experience in tropical medicine and disease control.
  • Career pathways across health, research, education and international development sectors.

Research & Community Engagement
