The GC of the University of Juba was re-instituted in 2016 to carry out the following functions: Promote, streamline, formulate and review university policies (regulations, procedures and practices) in the fields of graduate training, Promote and coordinate interdisciplinary research in graduate studies in the university and similar research institutions, Supervise programmes of graduate studies for all the university schools, institutes and Centres, Provide channels of communication from and to graduate students and their supervisors, Administer and oversee all matters (admissions and examinations) related to graduate studies, Provide a home for graduate students, and Perform any other relevant activity to improve the quality of scholarship and graduate training in the university.
University of Juba (Arabic: جامعة جوبا‎) is a Public University located in Juba, South Sudan, founded in 1975 in response to the need for Higher Education in Southern areas of Sudan. First admitted students in 1977. It’s one of the leading Academic institutions in the country.

Due to the Second Sudanese Civil War (1983-2005), the university was relocated to Khartoum, for safety of staffs, students and infrastructures.

In 2006, the government at that time agreed to change the name of the university to Juba National University. Following the attainment of the independence of South Sudan in July 2011, the University was relocated back to Juba, where it was founded. The University gives instructions in English Language
